A Change of Heart

He walks in silence,
solitary man with no reason
to withdraw further.
His lack of commitment
spells his loneliness,
he is only less her companionship,
but not the love they shared.
He wishes she would leave
in total and not in fragmented
reminders. Heartache becomes his disease;
his pleas fall on deaf ears,
and his fear is his heart
will never be the same.

  1. She took you advice and ran away to join the missionaries in Borneo. She’s sending you a postcard.

  2. Thought I’d come a poke around a bit. I’ve been around before, but never this close to your roots. Ya write a damn fine poem, but with Robert Burns as a model, there is still a bit to go. Still, a damn fine poem.
